History of New Salem Credit Union
The New Salem Credit Union was organized as the Blue Grass Credit Union on November 8, 1939, with seven members. On January 11, 1947 the shareholders unanimously voted to change the name to the New Salem Credit Union. Membership in this Credit Union was limited to a 20 mile radius, but now includes all people in the New Salem trade area, up to a 50 mile radius.

Mission Statement
New Salem Credit Union is a member owned and controlled financial organization which promotes financial responsibility, membership involvement, and is dedicated to service and education for our members while maintaining the credit union's long-term financial stability.

Field of Membership
As a community chartered credit union, New Salem Credit Union offers membership to anyone within a 50 mile radius.

Message to Our Members
The entire staff, officers, and directors of the New Salem Credit Union would like to introduce you to or remind you of Credit Union services and explain how they can help you, your family, and co-workers. After reading this, we're sure you'll agree that the Credit Union is the best possible place to go for your financial affairs.

First off, it is your Credit Union - you, a member, actually are a part owner and have a voice in governing it. At the annual meeting, you elect the Board of Directors, the Credit Committee, and the Supervisory Committee. Your elected board governs the Credit Union for you between membership meetings, the Credit Committee reviews and approves loans, and the Supervisory Committee audits all operations.

The State Banking department inspects your Credit Union periodically, and the Supervisory Committee also audits the records. In addition, all officers, directors, and employees are bonded against Credit Union loss or defalcation up to $1,250,000.

The enthusiasm and satisfaction that's derived from helping one's fellow man is reflected in the numerous officers, directors, and committee members who serve the Credit Union without pay. Only the manager and office employees are paid.

The only goal of the Credit Union is a sincere desire to "help you help each other."
